Doing it for the kids

that time again is approaching!

Fed up with not being able to hear and speak to people over the noise of kit etc in the back ground, what do others use?

I’m very tempted with a throat mic set up but they are either too cheap and thus probably don’t work or very expensive which being a farmer I’m not keen on buying!

Any thoughts welcome!

Make sure the back window of the tractor is shut for a start - if not you’ll grow old being deaf and with farmers’ lung. Once you get attuned, you can still hear any anomalies albeit at a lower total decibel level.

How will that fair with tractor engine noise though, jcb reversing etc?

Apple iPhone head phones.

I find the other person can’t hear me very well with these.

Agreed! And it keeps the dust out. Forever telling others to close the damn thing.

When the phone rings stop as that's normally when things go wrong as you are trying to multi task things

I agree if doing something tricky but if loading bales or land work it’s not so bad

tried a set of these.
the side without an ear piece digs into your scalp.
you wont wear them more than 2 minutes.
put them down
phone rings and can only be heard in earphones.
pick up phone and try speaking into it,
realise you need earphones on
wonder where you've put earphones
caller rings off as all he can hear is swearing.
you throw earphones out window and go back to driving and using phone.

like you, I also need a solution to this problem

Ah so not only do you go deaf, but you are inhaling dust all day and the cab interior is loaded with the stuff for the next man!

Hell yeah! No. I’m taking the pish, but I do have the back window open a notch so I can tell when the baler etc is about to self destruct. I find you need that advantage when cash is tighter than average. Guy driving the telehandler today thought it too hot, driving with the doors shut and didn’t hear the front propshaft rattling. 20 mph up the road and ‘BOOM rattle f**kity feck rattle’ and bits all over the road, guard destroyed, uj flange wrecked etc etc. Might just have been prevented with the door open and a 3/8 spanner on the spider cups for a couple, of mins. But no. The radio and air con was more important.

What about this?
