Harvest 2023

As far as I can see harvest in mid France is just about done and dusted. After the winter barley was done we had some rain which stopped everybody for a while, then wheat seemed to be ready before a lot of the OSR, but in the last week/10days everybody seems to have been toiling away like mad. I don't think I've ever seen the bulk of the harvest completed so quickly. Reports from neighbours are "average to good."
Lots of bright clean well coloured straw.

Been seeing a lot of FB posts about gangs finishing for the season. They do seem to have cracked on. Italy I think is a bit behind.

In my bit of France there is still lots to do and its raining. Doesn't help that this went off suddenly with enough noise to bring neighbours out of their houses. The shock bent some panels and the steps, blew off the trim below the windscreen and shattered the left hand headlight.

Nothing going on here except somebody’s tried a small piece of barley up on the wolds which surprises me. Our barley down on the sand won’t be ready until at least next week. OSR probably a fortnight away. Glypho hasn’t done anything yet. No rush.

Was that one of your original 25 year old Firestones?

Same thing looked likely to happen any moment soon on a 2166 here last year - luckily, we managed to get them changed just in time.

Still running with 30 year old Goodyear on our last 1660.

No it was a Taurus dated 2009 and looked in good condition though we found a repair after she popped. I bought the combine with the tyres on and she has done almost 7000 hours.

When the new tyre arrived I noticed the weight rating on that was 181 which is 8.2T. The old tyre was rated at 168 which is 5.6T.

The combine weighs 11.8T empty then add the header, the Biso header extension and a full grain tank and I think it's been lucky to make it this far.
