It always amazes me with the pics on here, faceache and farmers weekly, most don't look half the crop of mine and have a lot less straw behing the combine yet they're all doing 8.5-10 t/ha when mine will be 7.5-8.5!!!

90 acres down yesterday, yeild was average with a massive amount of straw. Good to get the WB out of the way on this farm won't be long till we are back after the SB and wheat

In a dry year like this I’d say half the yield and all of the quality comes from the 25% of my area that is heavier better land. The sand is just rubbish and it gets worse with these drier seasons. Not sure about the future for this kind of marginal land. Lovely place to live but it never really delivers agriculturally. I’d swap it for the same acreage on the wolds with a mobile home and a shed.

Nah, I'll be alright this year. I've got a yield monitor with mapping on the binder so I'll be getting as much as all the claas boys are!!!!

Now looks like turning into yet another wet and expensive harvest here, so it's an enormous relief to see the last of the WB.

I've not started winter barley yet as need to look after my kids this weekend otherwise I'd be on it now.

I really hope the forecast may not turn out as crap as all that, for me showers could mean anything.

I can see me on the OSR in 10-12 days

Living with the fear that bad weather means a crop will be in the floor is never good for mental state but the reality is it doesn't happen often

Can you dangle all of that in front of management here please? I've run out of straw and they haven't started yet (which is very odd for them).

Had a dabble in some Barley this afternoon, hand sample 15%, off the combine 18. Back in the shed within the hour

Back in to it yesterday, first load 13.9%. Had 20ac to finish today, rained off with one round left

Got going in some Valerie this morning until it wash us out the field .

Not a lot of straw behind the combine either

rained off at dinner then dried up so just nipped back to the field to snatch the last 5ac and it’s washing it down with just 1.5ac left

Knocked all of our winter barley off yesterday
Every species of brome , and volunteer hard cheesy ripe wheat definitely helped push it to just about 3t / acre all over weighbridge horrible sample is what it is glad to get it cut right up side of drive looked a mess all year
Tinned sunshine fortnight ago made the wheat straw in it just about fit to bale
And if the baler hadn’t broke down yesterday would have it all bundled up but a tropical torrential storm just stopped us dead half hour ago with 6 acres left
Anyhow every cloud and that a chippy tea now beckons

Every species of brome , and volunteer hard cheesy ripe wheat

it’s called “companion crop”. Just make sure you record when you drilled the brome and wheat and Defra will pay you for it
