We are just trying to find out if other people have had the gearbox replaced on the feedin elevator of their axial flow as we have heard rumours of other ones being replaced. It was a big bill to replace it. You can see on the photo (if its uploaded) how little hold its had and how could you expect it to hold with 35ft of osr or wheat being fed into the combine.
The shaft doesnt look very hard. Dot punch it and see if it makes a punch mark in the spline??. That'll tell you if its been harden or not.. If you care.
They took the gear box out and replaced it with one out of a demo machine. Also a new roller shaft inside in the trunking was knackered and needed replacing. We shouldn't have to pay for the gear box.The shaft had only had half the splines in action and it wouldn't be designed for that.
Not under warranty then?
If everything was perfect, nothing would ever break down and if it did, someone else would always pay. Best of luck getting a manufacturer's 'goodwill' contribution towards the repair.
Out of warranty, but the gearbox was okay. Hopefully the dealer will take case ih to task, as the dealer has had that from the old man. Case ih have normally been pretty good and so has the dealer so far.
