Here is the view from my office window this morning.

Everyone appears to be getting excited about starting silage. This was cut for hay - my second batch this year - on Monday.

First batch was for blowing off the cobwebs and feeding cattle. Had to stop selling last years a couple of months ago for fear of running out ourselves. Hence why I have been keen to start this year. From the feedback we have been receiving I don't think we can supply enough for local market let alone "international" sales. Have several hundred bales on pre order without advertising so need to fulfil these first.

You’re giving me the Willy’s. I’ve a hay rake in bits, a tedder I need to collect from Peterborough, a loader still to fit and disc mower to service. I’m looking at end of June before cutting but maybe before if the weather looks good for a week or two.

The forage analysis and the experience gained from last years effort by myself and several others from feeding the resulting crop to cattle, spent calves, sheep, goats and horses suggest the more cuts the better. But still a steep learning curve.
