Cut 45 today.
Raining now
Cut 45 today.
Why not do it every 2 days, that way it might dry even fasterIts taking 5 days because your turning it twice a day and its not having enough time sunny side up imo. Only ever tedd once a day here during the hottest part of the day.
Yeah each to their own, i try not to make hay out of heavy crops. Why not do it every 2 days, that way it might dry even faster
Up until the last few years we've done around 300ac of hay and haylage and I have had plenty of fields that have been tedded once a day and they definitely don't dry as quickly as those done twice
Leafy digestible grass will be on the deck for a week if it's turned once a day during May, which is pretty early for up this way.
Once it's dry on the top it needs turned, and I try to only ever do hay when it's windy so it's drying 24 hours a day so it more than justifies tedding twice.
I'm not really bothered about heat and sun as we're not likely to get the temperatures up here to do the job that the wind can.
I cut pretty heavy ryegrass yesterday afternoon and it will bale Tuesday if it stays windy. Our temps haven't been above high teens in weeks and we had little sun today, without tedding twice it would be closer to a week.
Maybe tedding once is why you find heavy crops drying so slow?
Won't hurt itStarted mowing a bit today - probably for silage for the cows as it is first week Wimbledon and Glastonbury next week, it could be hay though?
Nevertheless, dry forecast.

I sometimes when I mow a field, I get some fertiliser or Slurry put on another field or two, just so that if it rains I can't be wrong.Your a curse on haymaking. Dont mow if pan mixer has should be the saying, not shows etc
Festuloliums, and yes it’s all wrapped up now as was intended.Never hay type grass though is it, too much life in it.

Sheep love it and do well on it .What is so special about Timothy. My daughter who is a vet has just been diagnosed as being allergic to it after collapsing and ending up in A&E. Now added to list of allergies including rabbits.

£ a baleA question to you hay making boys! I did some small bales for a neighbour the other week 350 bales I rowed it up and baled it and they keep coming wanting to know how much they owe me!! How much do I charge! The usual man let them down twice. So I was a knight in shining armour

Ask them how much they want to pay. I've done it a few times when I've done things to help people out and they've wanted to pay.
