Head gasket fail

Hy all,
Big red 885xl has let go on number 1 across the gasket. I took the head off and found pockets of corrosion on the block deck. As its a one time only job I hope, I'll replace the liners etc while I'm at it. having a minimal skim on the head and block, I'm wondering if there are thicker head gaskets available or perhaps someone knows the acceptable piston protrusion tolerances? Looked online and there are plenty head gaskets but no choice of thickness in the UK..?
Any thoughts.......?

Why do you need to skim your head ? is it bent? have you checked it? Never skimmed a block. Again check for flatness. Good idea to replace the liners - a pretty easy job. do the piston rings while at it.

Slightly off topic, but what's people's opinion on Perkins head bolts? Going to do head gasket on 1104 ,so new gasket and bolts needed. Genuine ones very expensive, copy ones a quarter of the price. Did Perkins make their own or are they all the same.

The machine shop doing the work should be your first port of call, they'll have access to gaskets and tolerances.

Or, at least, they should do. If they don't, they're probably not the shop to use.

Fairly often need to skim a block after an overheat, or where a bolt hole has pulled up .

Theres some pocketing on the block deck which I'd like to minimize by a light skim. I will have the head checked before any rework. The machine shop asked me if I knew the piston protrusion tolerances so I'm guessing they dont have info on the D268 any more..

If the Pistons are still good, will genuine, original, not be better than some spurious ones
30 years ago I used to work part time at small rural garage..
An IH 454 came in with coolant going into sump caused by corroded liners which was caused by not renewing antifreeze
New liners and rings were fitted but engine did not run correctly
So it was dismantled again new pistons were fitted then it went good

but 30 years ago would the quality of the pistons not be better than some cheap Indian or Chinese stuff now
