Any good in terms of margin compared to conventional or HOLL varieties?

One of the guys I sell to is looking for Palmedor for harvest 18 for export via @Saxon-Agriculture

Any growers of Palmedor or other HEAR varieties? I'm led to believe that the pigeons will eat HEAR last after they've cleared other types up first.

We now have our latest terms out for Harvest 18' movement and Oct-Dec 18' movement HEAR rape. With a good premium over '00' osr plus oil and moisture bonuses on the gross price. Limited tonnage!! For further info please get in touch.

The premium has been eaten away over the fifteen or so years i have grown it.Pigeons are just as happy to eat it IMO!
Yield not quite up there with the best 00 or HOLL varieties nowadays. Would suit land with lower yield potential perhaps. Can be earlier than many 00 types and Palmedor stands fairly well.
Some HEAR contracts used to exclude use of sewage sludge that cropping year.

We grew marcant. It was a good variety for us. No agronomic difference to 00. Definitely lower yielding than Compass. IMO you need a 10% premium to stand still.

Good luck with the pigeon theory! Joking apart I have no opinion either way on that. Certainly no worse tha 00.

As the harvest 18' market stands at the moment our premium would equate to 10% plus bonuses on top.

I would also point out that there are other companies offering HEAR contracts I would be very surprised if there was much difference between them on contract prices or seed prices. I suggest asking around...

He,s in the trade.

Not too sure about growing, but have been told that volunteers can become an issue if you revert back to growing double low varieties. The Mills are testing for euricic acid and penalising very heavily.

I'd be 6 years before back into osr again, plus we have Clearfield for HEAR volunteers. Your point is very valid. (y)

As Premium Crops are the UK's main HEAR contractor we thought we should show our face in this conversation.
Not all HEAR contracts are the same!
As far as varieties are concerned Ergo is currently the highest yielding HEAR variety, with output very close to the best "00" varieties.
Our premiums are greater than quoted here.
Net margins are better by 10-15% (depending on market price and yield), that is factoring in yields, seed prices and premiums HEAR growers receive at least 10% more income.
If we can be of further assistance....................
