Hedge cutter maintenance

My McConnel 6570 has sat unused in the shed since last March.
I am going to change the tank filter for the coming season and just wondered is it better to do it before starting the machine and circulating the oil or at the end of the first day’s use.
Or does it make any difference?

Changed my tank filter once in 10 years

Cold , suppose hot would be better

Less oil spilling out after its sat still for a few months.

Won’t make the slightest difference in terms of getting any muck out.
I’d do it before starting because it should be drained and dry
