Hey, new here, I am currently in the U.S.A (in Kansas) and I am getting sick of all the bull going on in this country. Between my countries violence, anger, unfriendliness, racism and then the last straw was the "new president". I am sick of everything so I am leaving in a year in a half for New Zealand. I'm looking at the south island around the Invercargill area but my mind isn't made up yet, mainly going to go where I can get a job.

I am a super small farmer here in the U.S, I raise old fashion wheat (turkey red wheat) and mill it into flour, it is organic and is a higher price crop at $2.00 a pound.
I use all old machinery, I have a 1955 Farmall 400, 196? Massey Ferguson 35, 1959 John Deere 95 combine (round back) and then I have all the old implements to match. I have painted all my equipment (except the massey) to look new. I really enjoy farming and I want to work at a farm when I get to NZ.

I'm guessing there are people on here from NZ, any info or thoughts on farming? are there that many jobs open? I am good on about any machine, I also run loaders and my backhoe. Surely there is some job in NZ for me!.

If your wondering why I picked NZ??? I heard they have no snakes! I have a horrible phobia of snakes :eek::)

Looking forward to reading up on this forum, I have been reading a lot on NZ farms and immigration.

Welcome! I am in The UK we only have 1 venomous snake here its a tiny thing and bites from it are very rare and almost never fatal. They have no snakes in Ireland though!

Welcome along @BTS :)
What type of farm would you be most interested on finding a job on?
Invercargill is largely surrounded by dairy farms, now, with sheep/beef units becoming more popular once you are off the Southland plains- not huge farms and possibly won't be looking for staff as a result. Dairy are always looking for keen entrants to train on the job, however; and most of those jobs will start 1 June or so. That's "gypsy day": when the new dairy season starts.
Also, if you're machinery-minded, there are often plenty of opportunities to work for agricultural contractors, many of whom are keen on employing people from overseas especially over the busy spring/summer period - silage/cultivation type work and often the biggest, flashest gear you'll see anywhere, over here. :cool:
I have a few contacts in the Southland area, both in the contracting and wider agricultural community.. feel free to ask heaps of questions!

Welcome aboard @BTS

Have a browse through the thread suggested above and feel free to ask any questions. I can give an outsiders view but the many Kiwi residents on here can give more specifics.

How old are you (roughly), have you any qualifications in agriculture, how's your health and how much money could you take in? These will affect how easy it is to get a working resident visa.

@stewart - care to contribute?
