as some of you might know, I have for a few years wanted to have a go at it, and last November I though now is as good a time as any, so within a couple of weeks I managed to locate a plough not far from me, the owner had bought it about 10/12 years ago, but had done nothing with it and was not all complete, but the main bits were there, and I had some bits, so all the work started,
it was a total nut and bolt rebuild from the ground up, the beams were checked to be straight. and machined where the legs bolt on etc, thus to get it all true and straight
it took lots of my spare time over the next 14 weeks to sort it out and put it back together,

then I had 1 day in a friends field before my first go in public at a ploughing match, I was the only 1 with a high cut, but I just needed the practice so I went for it

That's a very good plough that is brilliantly engineered John and that ploughing is exceptional for a person that is new to the high cut class!! The high cut class ploughman in my opinion needs to be keen and needs to have a lot of patience like you. Don't suppose you have got any pictures of the finished plough?

no more pictures at the mo, and anyway the plough is not finished yet, there is some on going mods to be done, it was painted in bits, but once finished it will be painted again, I will keep posting as time goes by, and please all feel free to post good or bad comments on here

Three Furrow Elite Plough & Press 005.jpg

Three Furrow Elite Plough & Press 006.jpg

The plough and press were one matching unit from new, the drawbar was factory made with a row of holes to line up the press.
The cast iron press wheels had scrapers and at one time had a seed box mounted on the press, and on the cross member at the back had a drawbar to drag a harrow behind . It was a one pass drilling of wheat.

I tried ploughing on rubber tyre with it but with having no diff lock the land wheel ripped the surface to be ploughed and blocked the plough, but with the full set of iron wheels it was a good matching set

Ploughing with this outfit tomorrow but on rubber tyres, the plough is the original model that came out with that year of tractor 1946

You dont use the Elite now then? I too am restricted to the mounted class by my trailer plough getting heavier each year! I must say I do like to see tractors on their original steel wheels, it brings home to spectators just how things have moved on.

Yes I made a special trailer to carry it on ,on iron wheels, and I carried a County crawler on that also.
No when I retired some had to go and an outfit like that took some setting up and loading up again afterward (Om getting on a bit)
I had a two furrow elite to suit a standard Fordson and the three furrow had the long extended handles to suit the Fordson E27N
