Has anyone used any high strength box section or have any knowledge of it, got small engineering project where I need the strength but also need to keep the weight down.
Domex seem to do box sections, just need to find out more about it and find a supplier.
Any help would be great.

With box, anything below 100 X 100 X 5 tends to be supplied as S235JRH unless you specify a grade. If your looking for something a bit stronger ask for S355J2H, which has a higher tensile strength. Most bigger sizes are this grade anyway as there used in structural work and they always tend to spec this grade on drawings and there is little demand for bigger sizes in S235.

I think Corus used to/still do something called Hybox or similar.

It needs to be box, and ideally one that slides in another.
Getting two boxes to slide nicely is a sod of a thing to achieve because of the seams inside. If you make the bigger one an 4mm or 8mm wall one it's usually the best you'll do. For example a 100 X 100 X 8 would have an inside measurement of 84mm which an 80mm box would fit reasonably well. If it was a 100 X 100 X 4mm the inside would be 92mm which a 90mm box would usually fit if the seam on the bigger one is not too proud.

Round tube ? I don t know tech speak but you can get different thickness of walls and roll bars etc are called continuous which means there is no weld or join so much stronger but dearer to buy.

That would be ok, just trying to find something stronger than mild steel.

We recently made a grain pusher using high strength s355 box it allowed us to come back in size to keep the weight down
It’s not that much more expensive either

80x80x5 s355 is only €15 more expensive that s235 per 7.5m length incl vat

Thanks for that, where did you get it?
What size would you of used if it wasn’t hi strength?

cold drawn seamless tube is what I think you are referring to it has very heavy wall and has know seam and has a machined internal finish ideal for making pins and bushes we use 61.9mm with a 9.53 wall and you can buy a machined bar that fits perfect for pins
