Hiring out Camper Van

Looking at buying a camper van for my own use.. but was also interested in the possibilities of renting the machine out.

I have looked at insurance costs and they aren't too steep..

I was contemplating local hiring out initially ..certainly not overseas! Festivals seem to be a good bet ..

Pitfalls? Apart from the potential for punters to trash said van..

Most of the hire companies require a large upfront payment to cover the collision damage waiver and liability of the hirer. Often in excess of £500. But probably a necessity if hiring your van out.At least it might maker hirers take a bit of care but must admit that it put us off a bit when we were looking.

We have a small Transit based campervan, and apart from to very near family members would hate to hire it out. After a while you get your own clutter on board, and to rent it out would be like renting out your bed at home.

I suppose you are right..although I haven't bought the thing yet I can see that keeping a record of damage and dealing with breakages would be tiresome. Wife runs our local hostel and spends too long cleaning up after punters who supposedly know the rules abouf leaving hostels as you find them..urrghh:wtf:

Also yes..clutter..there's likely to be plenty of that..I'll see what the hire and reward insurance is likely to be.
