Dad always told me to sell 'em when they were dear and by 'em back when they're cheap, 'cos sure as eggs is eggs they won't stay dear for ever.

Working on that basis, a fair proportion of Wednesday's consignment are she hoggs.

Shearlings could quite easily be less money that fat hoggs now.

I'm with @neilo ,a bird in the hand. . 👍

I’ve a number of last years ewe lambs running , the plan was to sell half as shearling breeding ewes as they are decent sorts.

But the price of hogs at the moment means they need to be £250 plus as shearlings……
If folks keep selling stock ewe lambs, then will £250 buy third class shite gimmers?
I think to be realistic second draw Gimmers will be around £300. Tupping weight lambs £200 plus.

Another suggestion today gimmers be maybe only £20 more than last year.

Tups?
Double last years values? Well that's what a Tup breeder told me today are his expectations.

They perhaps should be.
But I can't see it happening.
In September, lambs will be back in the £100-120 bracket and paying £250 for the chance of 1.4 x £110 = £154 in a years time, won't see particualrly inviting.

I really don’t think they will be much dearer than this year certainly not £300, people won’t pay more than £200 unless the lambs stay the same (they won’t do that), hogggs are only £50 dearer than normal so don’t understand the excitement that people are suddenly going to be worth £130 more. People will just keep more lambs back as replacements.

Will the pirates stopping shipments of lamb still be inflating prices beyond belief?

Will supermarkets still be selling lamb at half price and, despite the price on the hoof, still be making a fortune?

Will SFI and enviromental madness mean half the numbers for sale?

Wish I knew, but the price is nice while it lasts

Red Sea pirates that have blown the supermarkets cunning plan to flood Europe with cheap Southern Hemisphere lamb out the water literally.

the extra 18+ days shipping time to move round Southern Africa instead of through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal is the main driver behind the vast increase in sheep meat prices.

NZ lamb is pretty cheap atm but no one wants to shift it to Europe

Are inlambers not £500?
2x£180, cull at £200.
I'm only surprised anyone is lambing their own instead of selling them.
But mostly I feel sorry for those poor suckers that gave away their hoggs for only £160 a month ago.

Foot and Mouth is coming again, Govt are making sure of it, by de-funding Dover Customs checks.
