Holding up traffic.

I was out with my wife and kids yesterday and nearly witnessed an accident caused by an ignorant sod with a JD and bale cart refusing to pull in and let traffic past.

He had at least 3 opportunities to safely pull in and failed to.

I know I hate queues behind me, and always pull in .

What do you all do here. How long does the queue need to be before its unacceptable.

I know only too well about queues behind you and no sooner have you pulled out there is a queue behind you again but there really is no excuse to pass a layby even though most lay-bys were not designed with large vehicles in mind with narrow kerbs etc but when there is a queue behind I always think is there an emergency vehicle in there trying to get going and I,m not seeing it

Plus you can't pull in unless there's somewhere to pull into. Heading south out of Aberystwyth there are only three pull-ins on the left before Aberaeron which is about 18 miles of busy A road. There's absolutely no way I'm going to pull across to the right for cars to pass, it would be far too dangerous.

We regularly travel on a 7 mile stretch of the A1101 , there were until recently three good sized lay-bys that we had to use every time we took machines on the road . Without any warning the council have blocked off or removed them so now there is nowhere suitable or safe to pull off at all so we have no choice but to let the traffic stack up behind us . One of us is going to get pulled by the police before to long or get blamed for people making a dangerous overtake . I have spoken to the highways department but they are not interested .

It can be a difficult situation to be in. Ive driven along the A17 in Lincs in tractors and its can be tricky to pull out of some of the lay-bys as they're positioned on corners and the difficulty can be getting back out again in a slow moving vehicle like a quadtrac. Another problem is some car drivers who sit right behind and won't overtake but then give you a barrage of abuse when you do pull in!

I drive down the A631 maybe twice a year with a big slow rig. Sadly, between where I am and where I am going there are *no* places where a tractor towing anything can safely and legally pull over to let traffic by. Sorry for the traffic as there are perhaps two decent places to pass me. I try and set off at a time avoiding the school / work rush.
