Who's worked for you ?

My best old cows are by picston shottle and comstar outside they both have there faults the main one being they are to big. The in younger cows the outside son Jeeves looks to be the stand out sire. They are that bit smaller, solid cows with better udders and more set in the legs . Going back to my early days f16 and
Delta Luxembourg were good to me .Luxembourg s were as ugly as sin as heifers and still ugly as cows but gave a stack of milk and lasted for ever a bull before his time

I'm glad somebody else started this thread because I was going to later! Should help no end because IMO people's experiences is worth as much if not more than the proof! I'll second the kian vote we had some good cows! Milking heifers this year draymans stand out, older cows Tennyson, melody and loader look well, youngstock goldfish are the pick. Currently ai'ing to jabir a Facebook immunity plus son from semex sexed. Have to say best out the lot are the nr crosses by Braut but I want to keep some Holsteins pure to do the crossing with and keep best cow families pedigree. Heard all the rave about iota but he's not sexed :( Nice to hear what cows are lasting and doing the job, who knows it could lead to a tff buying group??

Going back a bit, Etazon Hodges the best cows I've ever milked, small, perfect feet, but not very pretty, they'd milk their hearts out.

Had similar with Etazon Hokes too, who was a full brother IIRC. As you say, not pretty but certainly paid their way.

Best I remember was Ocean View Zenith, a son of Durham, his proof had him as narrow chested but we never found that (perhaps because we never had the tall, narrow chested cows to put him on). Smaller than some, great fertility, fat and scc. Great on their feet, udders that were near perfection and hard as nails. Vicious bitches as heifers and tried to kill me every time I had any in a crush, but calved down quietly and lasted forever.

Walking round sister inlaws dry cows and there was a big powerful black cow classified EX incalf to Zenith, I said if that has a bull calf I'll buy it rear it and use it, well it had a bull and I stuck looking at it for 10 months, and then it had to go, to say it was narrow chested was an understatement. If I remember correctly Startmore Rudolf (think that was his name) was a really good type bull, I could pick his daughters out in a bunch, he really left his stamp.

Dodgy feet? Ours all where anyway, other than that, fantastic cows. The ones that had reasonable feet went on forever and left some great daughters too.

We came by Rudolf (Rudolph?) semen when we were asked if we'd swap some Maughlin Storm semen we had on order, as he'd gone on short supply. That Storm semen went to Andrew Baird's 'Cleevale' herd, who's resulting Storm daughters made some serious money at his dispersal. The Storms we did have were some lazy, fat buggers though. Like MOET Melody later on, they were like stepping back to BF's.:(

Never actually used Celcius, but Dad did buy a couple. Small cows that milked for England and never caused any bother.

Used Warden across most of the herd in his day, which was mostly sired by MMB Linmack or his (homebred) sons. That was an evil cross, with lots of 'attitude'. Had a couple of promising contract mated Warden sons on test with the MMB, just when they decided to slaughter the lot and go pure Holstein.:(

Best sires we've used here:-
In the past - Supersire Pedant, a Prelude son
Older cows - Garrett, consistent milky cows, just a bit too big
Milking heifers and young stock - McCormick, black, decent size and strength, great feet and legs
