Horrific Dog Attack (Very Graphic)

I wonder if this has become some form of new barbaric 'blood sport'.
I had wondered the same, though had tried to convince myself that no one would be that deranged. But if dog fighting go on as prolifically as the media would have us believe, maybe it’s these nut jobs “training” their dogs, giving them a taste of blood so to speak? Not sure.

No. Do not start these myths. All such comments do is reinforce the belief among pet owners that "it couldn't be my dog".

Look inside the mouth of any dog of any breed. It's filled with sharp teeth designed for the rending of flesh and crunching of bones.

Dogs don't have an instinct to go for the throat. Wild canines kill my consumption. They grab a hold where ever they can and pull of chunks of tissue. Prey dies from blood loss and shock.

I have a 7 year old lab bitch. She is very gentle and friendly. If I feed her a road kill deer carcass she will eat everything except the molars.

Any dog of any breed can seriously injure or kill livestock. This is the message that must be diseminated.

I think we are all very well aware of these points. They have, after all, been made repeatedly in the press, to members of the public in person and by each other; to each other on here (preaching to the converted).

I was merely trying to account for the seemingly exponential rise in these cases over the last few years. Something has changed... I’m not sure what it is, but something has. It never used to be this bad, did it? So...

Is it the rise of social media making us all more aware? Is it increased dog ownership? Is it an increase in people moving out of the city and living on or beyond the urban fringe and seeking to “connect with the countryside”? Is it a greater anthropomorphic view of pets being a member of the family that can do no wrong? Is there a criminal element (hence my hypothesis)? Given the number of dogs stolen for the fighting trade as bait, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the scum bags have discovered a neat way of blooding their charges without the hassle of pinching Mrs Jones poodle! It was just a suggestion!

In all likelihood it is all of the above, and certainly no dog owner is absolved of the responsibility of keeping their ridiculous “fur baby” under control!

Bait dogs are a myth.

EVERYONE has a dog these days. Some households have 3 or 4 dogs.
Folks wander about where they please these days (with dogs), and don't respect others property.
It's not rocket science.

Is the trend in your area towards larger dogs? In this country I see a lot of ,women especially, with large dogs that they look at as protection. The worst thing is the dogs are not trained or socialized so they are not under control!
