Right, I'm in for the foreseeable and two meals in I'm pleasantly impressed. Lunch was egg and bacon sandwich with ice cream to follow. Ice-cream was made by local farm/ice-cream manufacturers. Yes not in fancy packaging but that's fine.
Tea omelet mash and veg. Tasty. Pudding caramel sundae, sweet and cold. Hit the spot.
Well done Deriford hospital Plymouth.

I went to a local food conference years ago where one of the Health Trusts in the SW did a presentation about how they managed to procure local foods without breaking any 'rules' on value. They gave ice cream as an example, saying they needed a good quality ice cream to get energy and sometimes fruit into folks that might not be very hungry or might have difficulties chewing or swallowing. By encouraging the local farmhouse supplier to change their packaging and reduce their portion size, they were able to put in a successful tender. Wonder if it's the same one?

I was wondering where the to post this thought. Hope this is the right place. Talking to a staff sister today who was passionate about the waste of money within the nhs. One thing she talked about, which I must admit I had never thought about, is, with all the ever increasing eye watering costs of operations which we expect as our right, why do we also expect the food to be free? If we were home, we would be paying for our own food. Why do we expect free food as well as say £10000 for an op? she maintained that if there was a charge for all food, the nhs would not only save millions but the charge could pay for decent meals in all hospitals. No pun intended, but food for thought!!!

Hi.

I spent January 2015 in Q.Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Excellent food, two hot meals a day plus ad lib snacks and drinks.

Choice of menus, English,Chinese West Indian,Indian. Kosher and

Halal.

All served at bedside.

Very good 5* Hotel.

I cannot fault catering medical or nursing staff.

Many thanks to you all.

5020 man.
