Probably over your budget if you only want a house cow.
Nice quiet 8th lactation cow would suit you fine ..... but they can still be giving over 7000 litres.

Hello, I need some advice on purchasing a Guernsey for my family. My situation is a bit complicated as I live and work in Kenya. I have a family of 9 and I’m very interested in Guernseys. I’ve been looking for some Guernseys near me, and have found a few for sale. It is very hard to verify their pedigree as most of the cows here are not registered. Here are some questions:
1. Any tips on determining whether the cows are pure Guernsey based on how they look?
2. When I milk the cows, the milk does not appear golden like one would expect. Could this be because most of the cows in this country are on a zero grazing lot and are not receiving pasture grass? Would that change the color of the milk due to the lack of beta-caratene?
3. If I buy one of these cows, and put it on pasture grass, will the milk change color to golden?
4. What else should I be asking/ thinking about as I look at buying a Guernsey?
I have photos of these cows but I’m not sure how to add them to this thread.
