How about a dip?

A good neighbour has offered to run mine through his dip after his - won't cost much, we'll "owe him one". The flock would need to travel in another neighbour's lorry there and back, don't have the numbers to make it worth setting up here. We'll probably "owe him one" too.

The flock are not itchy, a couple got late maggots and I've picked a tick or 2 and of course it would prevent any lice or mites. I usually say yes please to any help any neighbour is prepared to offer but I don't know whether the stress of lorry-swim-lorry would be counterproductive when they are just getting tarted up for the rams.

Any thoughts or opinions?

Unless summat goes badly wrong, the ewes will be fine. The on-going cover will ensure they don't get any itchy issues...which is whole lot better than finding a problem when they are tupped! And as above, we put the tups to work as we dip the main lot and see tups working in the draining pen. Take the offer.

Thanks for the comments. Sometimes I think I think too much. I'll get it organised.

Er, do they need dipping?:scratchhead: I know a lot will no doubt say that a good dipping sorts out all ills, but personally I wouldn’t want to throw OP’s about for no reason.
It’s many years since any of my sheep went through a dip, and it really hasn’t hurt them. Not that I would rule it out if I, or a neighbour, had scab that needed treating.

Good question! There is nothing on my flock to indicate they need dipping at the moment but on common land you can never rule out the unmentionable. I know 2 neighbours are dipping this year which is a hell of a faff if its just for fun. They don't say why, they just quietly get on with it. ... and I would not have been invited to the party if they did not think it was worth it. I'll get them dipped.
