How do you …. Get out of farming?

Sounds...... stressful! :(

This is why I am pondering shifting the cattle! Big cattle shed with loads of room about, so room for a ewe to get away a bit. Mis-mothering is my dread....
Not too stressful, the sheep are very calm, I can walk around the shed without them going stupid. Even the shearlings aren't giving me grief, the camera is great, can wake up, look around, and go back to sleep if nothing looks suspicious, it's even got a microphone so I can hear the grunting and groaning and wailing to get me leaping from my bed!.
Still not getting enough sleep though.

My trips and twins are calming down again... ewe rolls makes them more receptive to my presence! :p

The point about giving up farming is it doesn’t mean you give up living. In fact you wonder how you ever found the time to work. As for views from the farm, you now have time to enjoy views from anywhere you fancy . If you can do it and be financially secure at a relatively young age, you still have the energy to do other things .

come this June I will of been left school and full time working 48 years, folk can think what they like about what time I get up, do or don’t do with my days now
Snap this year will be my 50 th baling little bales, and probably my last, unless I do just a bit for my stepson, after milking cows twice a day for many years I reckon I've done my bit and earned a the easier days, going to convert a barn to retire to do not taking it too easy though 😂

You must have been working longer than I've been born, I'm coming to your way of thinking. Wounder if iv wasted time working flat out to make it all work. Might have been better doing less years ago.
I'm reaping the rewards of doing mega hours while young, the important bit is to give up stupid hours before it wrecks your body, especially milking as it's hard on your joints, work hard pay off debts and invest in things that will give you an income with no work, the industrial units are my pension and can be passed on to my beneficiaries.

One thing that needs remembering by those of us pondering the future...

Remaining a Farmer, from the financial perspective, can be hugely beneficial with all the little tax perks available, especially if VAT eligibility hangs on for a year or 3. . ;)
Also you never know what's round the corner
I'm certain food shortages aren't far off .

The long hours are thankfully, gone. Still the odd early start/late finish at "peak" times. But those are my choice... mostly.

That ethic still means I want to makle good hay, drill seeds in a good seedbed at an optimum time and keep things more or less tidy.*

Other than the yard and workshop!!
