How far would a straw chopper blow straw?

Location
West Wales
Warthog straw spreader is the way forwards. Brilliant machine, great company, we love ours to bits. + the price is half what a spreader bale is. It is much lighter than a spreader bale and a big tractor and loader will handle it if need be. Also it has no grease nipples as such, which suits a dairy farm.

I was thinking I saw one at yours. Does it load itself? Or do you have to go get the spikes and put it into it and re attach?

Do you have a ball park cost to it?

Sorry to be at doom and gloom but 100ft square will get mucky very quick. Cows will be walking too far on the straw
There is a pair of identical sheds here, only difference is feed passage is in one shed so 15 ft narrower bedded area, it stays clean, the other side is aways dirty, especially the first 15 ft closest to feed passage

I agree and it's not a brilliant sollution just trying to make the best of a bad one really. If I get time I will draw the shed layout currently and then see what others could suggest

she loads her self......either get the shed stacked in such a way that you can get to all the bale ends......the you just drive it into the stack and scoop one up. Or just stack up a few on the edge of the yard ready to get at and you can use them over a week.

Price is aprox £7k new I think............ ours was acquired 2nd hand via TFF :)

Cubicles is the plan for next year so this is just a compromise for this year
How do you plan to bed the cubicles?
If not using straw would the cost of a blower and the cost of straw not go a long way towards paying for cubicles?
If you want to bed cubicles with straw in due course then look for a suitable machine now? Warthog or spreadabale wont answer that purpose.

Have you seen spread a bale?

I'd agree with this, much better. Our old spread a bale was worn out so we tried a chopper. Took 2 mins 30s to spread a dodgy hesston. Took 31s with a spread a bale and made a better job, with less dust to cause eye problems. So we have a new spread a bale. If you have to drive in with a straw chopper on little wheels you stand a good chance of getting stuck too.

The plan is to use sawdust in the cubicles and then either sell the straw chopper or use it to bed down the beef calves.

The problem is the cost of the concrete. The frame and cubicles are cheapish

Any chance of getting recycled sawdust and tipping it in the shed with the loader, some firms will bring it free but I suppose it depends on your location.

I was on a farm a few months ago, were they'd blown a hole through a concrete panel with a stone from a blower  I can't stand the things.
