How good are Marshall muck spreaders made?

Occasionally I look on Hewitt website just to see what insurance write offs are for sale
I was surprised to see what looked to be a new Marshall
Rotaspreader with the axle broken clean off
I know machines are designed to withstand abuse obviously it is no good speculating why it
happened but if I was looking
for a muck spreader I would be
tempted to put in a bid

Weve got a 10 cube marshall which we hire out and use ourselves. Good machine but the weak points are the lid hinges breakin. The spuds on rotor wearin away after a while and the shaft on the rotor that the big cog goes onto ours broke it of and we had sum job gettin a new 1 welded on dead true but all in all not a bad machine

i fixed a 10cube that the axle tried to remove itself from, came for the brake ram bracket welded back on only for me to find the axle barely attached, snapping off at the bolt brackets. wasnt a big job to lift barrel off and sort the axle so would be a good buy if cheap enough

Far more important than galvanising is using corrosion resistant steel as the hammers will soon remove the zinc if you dont keep an eye on the chain stretch

I agree, something that will cope with repeated abrasion so the steel used will surely need to be specified as such with the galvanic coating on top.

I don't quite understand why they stopped galvanising them - I think all the new ones I've seen were galvanised. Serious bling

They do have a drain at the front now. A simple thing that should've been done years ago.

There was a company locally making galvanised spreaders years ago, and 40 year old ones still look immaculate today.

I've had several Marshalls and given them some fair abuse. The only real weak points are the utterly crap hinges and lids and around the rotor has a tendency to leak slurry into the bearings if you overfill them. My last one was am MS90 with very wide tyres and it never had any axle troubles but was fairly numb on the road and turning, but very good when it was wet.

Who makes a galvanised mcuk spreader?

If there is one machine that needs to be galvanised it is surely silage trailers?
We were the first ever to have a galvanised marshall spreader. We got them to do it as it wasnt on thier option list and once they did ours they put ut on the option list. We also have a fleming muck spreader galvanised, also the first 1 they ever done. Great believer in galvanisin. Got 2 tankers 2 muck spreaders 1 bale trailer 1 lowloader all galvanised. Deffinitely the way to go
