Stole these pictures from Hebrides FB and thought it might be of interest, The photos are of St Kilda, approx 60 miles west of the Isle of Harris, St Kilda is now a UNESCO / world heritage sight.. I think the sheep quite happy to wander about the cliff face

There were some very interesting books written by the Kearnton brothers in the 1890s, who were amongst the first natural history photographers.

It's a long time since I read them, but they told of crofters on one the islands pulling the canine teeth of their dogs which were used to pull down the sheep because they were from a breed which would not flock! You can probably get a copy from your local library via Interlibrary Loan. Another story was how the crofters caught sea birds for food by laying long lines of snares along the cliffs. The crofters went bare footed and one caught his big toe in a snare and went over the cliff to remain suspended by that toe until rescued! Yeah, I think we've got it soft today!

I will look out for that cheers.. As I remember it, they made rope with hair and went down the cliffs at night to snare fulmar which were salted down. It is an interesting place. might be of interest
