Eyebrow retention could be a problem with that exhaust pipe!Well if it has to be out of the Lynx we'd have a driveshaft to work with.
Shocking noisy ...........
are you referring to me as fishing for compliments??Fishing for compliments, I didn't let on I heard him ............
The little Rover unit ,from the fire pump would have been ideal though gearing would have been interesting. The running speed was 90,000 rpm, started with a handle(well 2) as well!Well if it has to be out of the Lynx we'd have a driveshaft to work with.
Shocking noisy ...........
It was the same engine as fitted to the rover gas turbine car.It was diesel fuelled. Starting was hard work, two men, one each side cranked the handles, gradually increasing speed until the compressor reached about 70,000, then the fuel was turned on and two large surface discharge spark plugs fed from a large capacitor lit the fire. Hand cranking continued till around 80,000 compressor rpm was reached, when the turbine would self sustain, and run up to speed. You'll ave to give me more to work on ...........
A jet engine on the fire pump?
Started with a handle, or what would be the starting procedure be for such an engine?
A death trap, probably drum brakes all round ...........
I had a left hander as my welding partner for a while. We always butted shoulders on the hot start on tops.mainline gas pipeline welding has been cellulosic downhill for the last 60 years tie ins river crossings etc may be up hill or dolly mix but in general down hill.
Handy on the 6 g thoughView attachment 695958

Correct.Real pipe liners go down hill.
ya true that. Also handy on street works when the joint is right up again the ditch end.Handy on the 6 g though
How far off are ye till grain harvest. In Nottingham here for a few weeks with the inlaws on the beers . All the winter barley has been cut and baled here. Straw rows look a bit lean.Handy on the 6 g though
We will be a month yet at least but the crops are looking good so fingers crossed be nice for you to be home for while. How far off are ye till grain harvest. We all think we can weld ...........
Main difference we find between arc and MIG, you pull the arc and push the MIG handle along the work.
But, when arc welding up hand on the vertical you push. Usually up hand for strength down hand to vanity.
If you don't mind me saying, a saw bench isn't the best thing to learn on, so anything safety critical stick a bolt in it as well.
.
??With mig you push and pull you push for a less penetrating weld because your pushing the weld puddle away from you and this is used for thin materials for Thicker metals you pull the weld or in welding terms backhand, this keeps the weld puddle hotter for longer.
