How much isn’t getting planted

Another soaking yesterday and not looking like any planting in the next two weeks with 170 acres unplanted which might not get done , how much is left to do , I recon most people around here are 1/2 to 3/4 planted at best.

1074 ac of beans and barley left, all good land done , cant even spray off most of it yet, we really are in deep sh1t.

55mm this week, water standing in fields again and we are on a hill !

Only drilled a third and have clay cap to drill that wants 3-4 good days to dry up before thinking about anything, few dry days over Easter forecast so might a get a bit more in before rain midweek but not much prospect of more than that

Wife drove back from Devon last night and the 303 was closed with flooding and all the A roads across country were flooded, it’s terrible atm

Latest I’ve drilled SB here is April 18th and I can’t see us being finished before then if the forecast is right !

Drilled Spring Beans April 17th 2023. They were ok but harvesting them in early October was a pain and I would not want to go any later with them. Got a chunk of spring wheat and spring barley to do too. Luckily I am not trying to plant any winter crops behind these and they are going in come what may.

I said in another thread about SFI cap that the weather has reduced our production by around 25%. 15% from unplanted and 10% by reduced yield expectation!

No spring crops in yet here. Have given myself till the middle of April. Might stretch that to the 20th if the weather looks good. Have all the seed and will need seed for the following spring and need the straw. Have all the inputs on farm and need the straw and the cash flow is helpful. Trying to work out if the loss is greater doing nothing. Might put the lot into maize otherwise…

The worst situation would be a crap crop of spring feed barley, cut early September, and wet straw down delaying remedial land work.

Thankfully only 15 acres of barley planned. Supposed to of been grassed down last September, but rain ruined that one.
Now down for Herbal lay this autumn.

Is it still boys land, if you need to carry a sledge hammer to break up stones.

We can certainly get heavy yeilds in a wet time & always get on. But not sure it is boys land.

Well we didnt get all our winter crops in, and some of what we did get in didn't grow. So we have a lot more spring cropping than we normally have. It just wont stop bloody raining. starts to dry out, then it rains.

2 ploughs and a P/H drill combo dragged out the nettles and set to work on the remainder of the spring barley , sprinter might go with 2 more drying days! Been a barsteward spring! Managed 320 acres of growth regs on wheat also today, tramlines wet!

Beans on heavy land will need 3 weeks without rain, so April drilling looks impossible for them. Still hope for the rest of my spring barley & spring oats.

Yes it is. Best way is to use stone fork on front linkage to pick them up.
