We are getting married in June and I need 20kg of beef was thinking of ringing a butcher up asking if he would buy a heifer off me and sell me 20kg topside off it. Any ideas of what deal we should do I have not a lot of idea of the value of cuts, the beast is a lim heifer be around a U4L about 320 kg at a commercial plant. Any ideas welcome

We've just had one back, packed and priced by butcher, topside is £13.50/kg. Was proper beef though, none of that continental rubbish!

Why not just ask your normal processor to do the business for you? Surely they wholesale the beef and would happily accommodate you. ABP certainly will.

How many are you feeding? My eldest son is getting married in July and I have donated a Limi heifer which will my contribution to the bash which features an evening BBQ. the fillet and sirloin will be kept back for the immediate family, as many steaks as possible cut for the main meal then sausages and burgers from the rest to be available for those who suffer the munchies after a few drinks. How many will that feed?
(I will be early in the queue so not worried about going hungry!)

100 to sit down meal but having a pig roast in the evening. We have kept the day guests to close friends and close family then having quite a few later in the evening

I'd be having rib if I was you. Topside is not the best. Any butch would be happy to get rid of that quantity
Or Sirloin on the bone(y) It is amazing how much better on the bone Sirloin and Rib taste. Only problem is you may need a little more weight to allow for the bones. How are you cooking and serving the meat?
