How much will you pay to plough ?

12m x65m is a fair size but avoid too many tramlines as Sprayer says. If there is insufficient land to cover the entry, reduce the size of the entry on a first come first served basis. Decide the layout well before closing date and act accordingly. I have traveled two hours to be shoe-horned onto a plot half on the headland and , charity or not, I do not appreciate it.

Land depending, Tern Valley try to fit everyone in with 100x 15 yards, ( the main organizer is yet to go metric ;)) but at times it's nearer 80x14/13 but a good area to plough, time is of the essence as the committee are not happy if you are much later than 2 pm finishing, which in turn allows plenty of time to get the results sorted and cuts down the pitter pattering of starts , competitors will normally be leaving the field circa 4pm

At Scarcroft we normally manage to keep the smallest plots to 60 x12 (whole Englsh Yards) we always try to give the trailer class bigger headlands to allow easier turning and sometimes this impinges slightly on the plot length.
We always give World Style a minimum of 60 x 15.
Once ploughed in a Young Farmers match in North Yorkshire where the plots were wider than they were long - 20 x 25. Nightmare scenario, as is the bit about 30 250hp tractors with 5 tonne 6 furrow reversibles driving across the middle of the plots to get to where they are ploughing.
With good management we can always get the site clear for around 4pm which is a major consideration as all our exits are onto busy A roads, especially as we normally plough on the day the clocks go back.
We see on here plenty of gripes against organisers. Here’s one from one organiser back at the gripers which is very pertinent on this thread of how much are you willing to pay. Not a lot in some cases. We have an open door policy and if we have spare plots then we will take late entries. It is a big failing. Late entries are by and large phone bookings which means the entrant pays on the day. Whilst Jane keeps a very good eye on the situation, there are those who abuse the privilege, whether it be because of the weather or that they have found a match more local to them, some of them just don’t turn up - 10 last year. The logistical nightmare of giving people as big a plot as we can out of the window, there being no onus on them to turn up if they have not paid.
Financial constraints mean that our entry fee will have to be £10 this coming season. We have kept it at £6 (whole English pounds) up until now.

I have been one of those people who book in late due to the nature of my work, I have a guilt complex about doing so so always double the entry fee and ask it to be donated to charity, I think you may have a case to either charge more for late entries or print on the schedule " late entries will not be accepted"

I understand your position Roy but as Howard said there are many who try to work the system. I state on the entry form no late entries and no refunds for cancellation. I charge £10 entry with a prize fund per class of about £30 with extra prizes for ladies and Juniors. Break even entry is about 30 although prizes are largely sponsored.

I would think that my entry fees average out at around £12.00, some are as low as £5 highest is £20, thats under discussion, includes many things of no use to ploughmen.

Could allus’ be more for thee considering all’ot schooling you get when you get here, plus all’ot time sorting you out on here and FB.

It was a fiver when I started 20 years ago.

66.66666% and is still cheap as usually good land there

Can be the best land in the world John but its what you do with it that counts! Good for the most part but a couple of fImelda we can’t use. One sticks even when the boards are bright - t’other that Ransomes ploughs could never cope with because of all the limestone outcrops.

At a committee meeting the other night it was proposed that we increase our entry fee to £15 from £12 I was against this move, what is the general opinion?
Bloody hell that's cheap, we get charged £15/rider to enter a Club's motorcycle Trial on a farmer's land
I'd jump at £12 per entry
Ours run from 11am on a Sunday and usually all done by 2.30pm

A Moto X is about £40/rider on farm land

No lunch (bring your own bait)

No trophies

No prize money
