You mean can other people log in and use your connection?

Make sure you have a strong password set and then no one can get in without the password. If someone got past the WiFi password, there are still safeguards in place before they can gain access to the devices connected to it, like your phone/computer etc.

I believe BT routers leave a channel open on your router which other BT customers can use if they are in range... safely and securely separate to your internet traffic.

I think they are utter rubbish.

Only if you open your router up to it. I opted in so I'd be able to use BT hotspots. I lived in a remote area & there was nowhere for others to park up and use it within range, so no bother.

Yup, proved mighty useful in the bad old days before 3G came along.
