I personally would never install a BT router (or any of these 'free' routers) for my own use.
I think they are utter rubbish.
However, I suppose for the average lay person they suffice.
I believe BT routers leave a channel open on your router which other BT customers can use if they are in range... safely and securely separate to your internet traffic.
Only if you open your router up to it. I opted in so I'd be able to use BT hotspots. I lived in a remote area & there was nowhere for others to park up and use it within range, so no bother.
