I'm on couple of non farming forums and all I can say is there are some really bitter and twisted folk around that are consumed by hate for others, yet often claim that anyone who disagrees with them are the bigots etc, absolutely no point in arguing with people like that, what all these folk did years ago to release their anger Im not sure
They were sent as cannon-fodder to far off wars.

There is a lot of bitter and twisted folks all around, not just on non farming forums unfortunately...
Life has taught some of us nothing as we allegedly grow up, thus all the bitterness comes out and directed against others for one's own failings and insecurities.

After recently being targeted by animal activists on their Facebook site with my business address , phone number and photo which was taken 10 years ago my advise is don't engage, just ignore them . We had one day with about 15 phone calls, ended up pulling plug on phone at 10pm. Next day nothing despite local paper wanting to run a story on all the really nasty comments that were directed against me. I never read any of the comments but my wife did. Had to warn school my children go to what was going off.
Majority are keyboard warriors. The Facebook post called for people to protest outside my farm as I was supposedly training people to trap Badgers (I wasn't) . Nobody turned up. Don't give them the oxygen to argue against you.

Most of them are keyboard warriors with fake names from far away. I still reckon a lot of them could be bots.

I particularly enjoyed ‘bunnylover101’ from Santa Barbara, California saying she knew where I lived and would get my calf rearing business shut down. Will ya really pet?

As for difficult neighbours. If at all possible, talk. We had a bit of trouble a couple a years ago over a large new building. Everything has calmed down now.

Advice to me from the police. Don't confront, avoid face to face, and use third parties, i.e. the authorities (council, police, etc). To which I would add, know the law and know your rights, neither of which should be too difficult to discover using Google. Then bide your time, sooner or later they will overstep the mark in frustration when you appear to not be reacting.

Speaking of badgers I see Corbyn’s latest ‘stop the cull’ tweet has endless comments underneath either taking the pee out of his desperation for votes or supporting farmers. As ever, a small activist minority skew the debate.

Also, I thought the cull was supposed to grind to a halt with Tony Juniper in charge at NE. Has he been converted by the evidence!?

Don't get angry. Be surprised they are there (I would be if it were me). Just say: 'what do you want to see? And any questions?'

You are conducting your business legally and have nothing to hide/fear. They are nuts.

Ignore any online communications or letters or phone calls or similar contact. Face to face if possible avoid them.

I think this industry is not short of nutters either, quite surprised at some of the comments on facebook regarding a farmer finding the local school has put a locked gate in the fence.
Yes it was wrong not to have consulted, but the comments are often way over the top!
that's just social media its all the same the mad shout down the sane

I always retire to the office when Emmerdale comes on the telly. Hate the way they seem to be constantly shouting & screaming at each other. ( or shagging someone elses partner )
Question is - are they reflecting today`s society, or are they giving folk the impression it is fine to behave like that
Agree totally, along with all the other waste of time reality shows such as love island etc. They all portray that this fake live is normal. Sad reflection on today’s society

Never watch it now and haven’t for a couple of years. Seems to be a rural version of Eastenders with everybody either rowing with each other or bonking someone else’s property, and generally being thoroughly obnoxious and unpleasant.
In some ways it might reflect life, but I think it is more likely to corrupt some otherwise decent people and give the impression that duplicity, aggression and unpleasantness is acceptable and ‘normal’ behaviour. From what sparse knowledge I now have of Emmerdale and Eastenders they are quite honestly quite repulsive programmes IMO.

How do they find time to be always in the pub,or cafe and does anyone get muddy.Question where do they pack the meat they sell from the farm.Never seen anyone in whites.Farm must be doing well, judging by the spending it does

Whenever I happened to catch a glimpse of Coronation Street everybody seemed to be in the pub in their lunch break from Underworld, spending most of what they had just earned that morning. Those that were not in the Rover’s Return could invariably be found gossiping in Roy’s Rolls and buying coffee that they could have made some 90% cheaper in their own house next door.
