I guessing you will have to use the brakes., some new models of tractor have a feature that if it feels the verio gearbox braking it applies the brakes to help out., can remember which manufacture

It's the same physics as a power shift gearbox

Start off slow in a low ratio, let the engine hold it, then gently apply brakes, once you feel the brakes are being punished, shift up ratio

Guess the difficult bit is having a feel for how little brakes you can get away with

Use a low gear ratio. It's no more rocket science than driving a powershift and it has the same engine braking exactly. If the tyres let go, then let it accelerate as little as practical in order to keep the wheels turning and under control. If you feel you are about to die, you really should not be there in the first place. If following a forager, you set the pace that you are comfortable with. Don't let yourself be bullied by the forager driver or others into doing something silly.

How can it be the same as a power shift? A power shift will keep rolling without any acceleration. Dyna vt will try and stop the tractor if you take your foot off the accelerator.

He never has a big enough load to hold back
Huh... cant say its been a problem stopping the dyna-vt, no holding it back on hill neither.
Just go canny from the top of it before hand.
No different to a fixed geared tractor, ultimately if the decent is plenty & long enuff & a cowboy is at the wheel something will go wrong.
Iv not once had to put the 7499 into low range going down any Hill.
Yes ive regularly had 19/20t on the back of it so know whats safe & whats not.

I’ve no issues on stick mode yet I appreciate where you’re coming from it takes some getting used, feather the brake/pump it, don’t brake hard or all the way just gentle whilst pulling back steady on the ‘stick’ should keep you right

It’s one of those things where you’ve got to learn it, a bit like a bite point on a clutch when hill starting

Agree with some of the other contributors don’t rush if you don’t feel safe, don’t need another accident and there’s no shame in being honest, your employer may not appreciate it and question your competence, but ask to be shown.

They’ve invested in the kit, I assume you’re paid an attractive rate to operate it, so it’s in there interest for you not to destroy a gearbox

There is no better trans imho once you learn how to use it.
They wouldnt fit these in every single FENDT if there was something better.
So satisfying just to get the right forward speed vs revs for any task.
If it has one flaw its the lack of proper engine braking like a fixed physical geared tractor, but you just drive it accordingly & you soon forgive it.
I can jump between this & my Dyna-6 Tractor tho no probs, but it feels a backwards step everytime.

Just have to correct that absolute falacy, often repeated but plain wrong, that the vario lacks engine braking. It has full engine braking just like any other transmission to the point, just like any other transmission that if you change to too low a ratio down hill you run the risk of overwhelming the engine’s compression and over revving it.

I just am amazed that this nonsense keeps coming up. Stop it!
