Evening All, got a 580d here giving grief in the gear box under the slew motor. Turns out the gear and shaft going down to the slew ring has some play in it, the bolts that hold the shaft up in the gearbox have sheared as well. the out put gear from the motor has two teeth that need rebuilding too so it's obvious something has been going round in there.

would be grateful if anyone could pass on any experiences or ideas about the shaft into the slew ring and gear rebuilding. Thanks.

So in between Bleddy cold rain showers and the wind we got into it.....

It's the shaft that links the motor to the slew box.... 3 teeth missing which was causing the graunchiness. I have had a price from someone a £385 but thought I'd put it out there in case anyone knows of a second hand, or new, one that maybe cheaper.

Be careful because one of the main spares suppliers is either a criminal or stupid. I bought some stuff and paid by credit card seemed OK but when the statement came he had taken the money twice. I phoned and he said he would arrange a refund and bugger me he took it out again. I called and called and got nowhere so i went to the card people who returned it. I can look up and see who it was but be careful best arrange a BACS. There was another guy on here from abroad that he had taken a lot of money from and not delivered the goods

Thank you guys. He has offered the part in question, reasonable money too compared to another. If I'm brave enough I may use a private credit card if necessary.

Anyone know about building up gears with welding rods?

Don't and don't are the answers to your questions. I would send a cheque or Bacs once he has your cc number your knackered. Gears are hardened and treated so don't bother or you'll get more problems, that gear takes a lot of torque.
