I happened to hear this this morning and it made me think of agriculture...

Hearing this reminded me of something happening within agriculture - substitute "MPs" and "politics" for words more suited to our industry....

I just heard her say 'the grassroots' should have more say. Oh dear, 180,000 True Blue Tories and the personal financial backers. Public funding and less of this 'party / crony' system of politics.

I see that the usual suspects - Natural England, RSPB, Wildlife Trusts et al - have written to Sunak warning him not to pause or dilute any actions towards net zero and the banning of ICE cars in 2030 on pain of being taken to court.

These NGOs remind me of Warden Hodges off Dads Army

What did they say they commanded, something like 20 million votes ? Here's a thought; UK ag could get them to adopt policies that benefit farmers and meet their environmental objectives. Because what do we command on our own, half a mil votes, tops ?

Yes they did. Threatened to mobilise their members in protest.

Might get 10,000 at a push out on the streets.

The truth is that the majority of the population are getting a little tired of being preached at by non elected NGOs such as the Committee for Climate Change (& their mouthpiece, the BBC and that scruffy sod Rowlett ) using doom mongering terminology.

You and I and most other people know that we are a million miles from doing without fossil fuels. To suggest anything else is to delude oneself

What is this, National avoiding the question day ?

Should UK ag ask those bodies to adopt policies that benefit farmers and meet their environmental objectives ?

Those bodies aren’t interested in farming or adopting farmer friendly policies. All they want is to succour people in to being members … or better, leave them legacies in their wills.
They are NOT friends with farmers. Full stop

Still doesn't answer my question.

The letter is attached. Many folks on here will belong to at least one of the signatories. I belong to three. If those bodies aren't friends with farmers, then how come we pay them subs ?

you could add to your post,
all the 'top' people in those bodies, are well paid, and probably on 'bonuses' when membership is increased,

they have a vested interest into promoting their particular body, to increase membership.

Whether they believe in what they preach, is an entirely different matter, they are salespeople, (note woke phrase) that are hired because they are good at their job.

Exactly that....they have their own agendas that are greater than the cause that they claim to represent.

The headlines sound good, but the small print is what tells the truth.

Tiredness would turn to anger if the majority of the population had even half an inkling as to the vested interests of those that sit on the Climate Change Committee. From it's Chair with his corporate greenwashing business to the wind farm shareholders that sit on it, they're making serious dosh out of climate change.

20 million, I wonder how much double counting has gone on, you say you belong to 3, I don’t belong to any of them, I suspect a lot of farmers would be the same

You could say the same about almost all of the "regulators" in this country too.

A classic situation of musical chairs with significant direct remuneration, let alone "fringe benefits".

Did anyone know Howard Davies, chairman of the board of Natwest (who stated they had full confidence in Dame Alison Rose) was previously Executive Chairman of the Financial Service Authority i.e. the regulator of the UK financial services industry?

There's long been a revolving door between regulatory bodies and those they are supposed to regulate, but I suggest that what we're seeing now is even worse. Those who have direct financial (or ideological) interests don't even have the decency to skip the fence, they just stay in such bodies whilst benefitting from what those bodies are pushing.

I'm glad someone has finally delivered the crux of this: there is at present no alternative to fossil fuels. Arguing otherwise is just nonsense and people doing so deserve to be shouted down as the muppets they are until valid and practical solutions are found. No amount of gluing ones hands to the road will change this.

All these organisations are HEAVILY political

Pushing political agendas to harm sections of the UK Population

They all need to have their charitable status removed - taxed & regulated as Political Organisations

Enough is Enough

A lot of this appears to have come about because the regulators have forced businesses and organisations to have a view and a policy on environmental, social, diversity etc. issues, which has caused these organisations to become politicised.

If anything it's a classic case of over-regulation and poor quality legislation that has failed......and no doubt many will be rubbing their hands at this arguing for yet MORE legislation because it shows that the existing requirements are not sufficient.

The more complicated and specialist it all becomes, the more the revolving door is required. Poacher turned gamekeeper effect - it becomes a closed shop.

What is actually needed to address this is REDUCED legislation as opposed to INCREASED.
