I hear you’re all racist now

I've had some of the best laughs working internationally in random remote locations with multi-national crews.
Had a fair few fraught moments as well though.
I think the Russians were probably the most openly racist though the Muslim lands are where I've felt most at risk.
Get a gang of white people together and they’ll make lots of racist comments. That’s just how homogenous groups are. I’m as guilty as anyone. The most openly racist i’ve come across are Americans from the deep south. I worked in Sudan and the Arabs classed themselves as white people even though they were very black. African Sudanese were black people they were all Muslims though. I never felt any fear in Sudan. Russia frightened the life out of me.

How did your wife get on in the Sudan? In Saudi Southern Asians are the bottom of the racial totam pole because so many are taken in to the country as modern day slaves. We are not allowed to send Indian heritage folks to the camp in Kuwait as it pisses off the janitorial staff that they have to clean for folk they see as their own cast.

This dipsticks doing an "Attenborough" now 🙄

One of the comments on Clarkson's post was a farmer filming on YouTube his own sugar beet harvest and British Sugar insist he take the video down as he wasn't wearing a hard hat and high viz. Clarkson even commented "you're kidding right?"

I never lived in Sudan just went for a week or ten days a month to check up on my staff. The white ones had no problems but the Africans found it hard. My wife never had a problem when she came with me especially as she was a Vet and the person we reported to with the farms was a Coptic Christian woman who also was a vet. On the farms we had Phillipinos and Nepalese they had two year contracts at the start their passports were taken and returned after two years. My wifes aunt and uncle moved to Dubai in the seventies from Kenya. He set up Emirates Airline and she was a teacher. They did very well they set up schools educating the childrren of the Indian middle classes. However not all are equal and it’s pretty rough for those at the bottom who these days tend to mainly come from Pakistan. Qatar and Saudi are recruiting a lot of Kenyans these days. If you are poor these places must be dreadful.

Yes you are correct, I managed to cope reasonably well in Russia, basically blanked out the ignorance after a few trips & only had 1x incident involving mild gun crime/ violence directly though they are crazy & there was plenty happening on the periphery of our activities involving bribery, corruption & violence..........some of which was comical more than tragic
In terms of danger & fear for my life Yemen takes a bit of beating, I really would not recommend it.

I hate labels of all kinds. Their only purpose is to divide people. We need to just get over using labels or else find ones which are more acceptable. We shouldn't describe people using terms like black or white. Those are colours and in my limited experience of the world I am yet to see any skin tone even closely approximating those colours. My skin sure as heck is not white, I doubt anyone else's here is either.
American true story crime thing on telly last night, a murdered girl was described as " light black" which was a new one to me. Logic would say that means grey, but it turned out not!
My sister in law lectures in Cardiff Uni and it's drummed in to staff that using the term "coloured " is pretty much a sacking offence, unyet there's a " coloured people of America " association in the USA. I'm no racist at all but I think I could be one by mistake depending on where I go. Better stay home👍
