I need john deere buying advice.

Hello from finland. Im starting small tractor contracting business.
I need 100-180hp front loader tractor with tsl and 50kmh transmission would be ideal.
I been driving lots of different brands mostly john deere tractors, but bigger and new ones. Now buying own, so big and new is not realistic for me.
Transmission would be PowerQuad and budget is 30-40k + vat
Is there huge difference in fuel economy when comparin 4 and 6 cyl versio? i have never tried 4cyl john deere like 6420
But those might be good loader tractors?
Otherwise i think 6910 or 6920-(commonrail) would be in my price range. But so hard to find those bellow 10000 hours. I think that engine will last fine, we have 6.7 liter timberjack forwarder with 45000 hour unopened engine, still pulling strong. Atleast i think it is a same engine? Looks like it. Correct me if im wrong.
In other words, reliability and fuel consumption take priority. What would be your choice?

Honestly, any real contractor in this country wouldn't dare buy a Valtra. We know what those are. 😅
6000 and 8000 serie is okay, but prices are not realistic.
Really? I’ve never had one or a jd for that matter but I’d say valtra have a better reputation for reliability and at a rough guess I’d say in the uk they would be on par price wise

Interesting. They are made of thin sheet compared to john deere. All the real work is done here with John Deere, Case, New Holland or old fiat tractors. Valtras are most of the time in 2 pieces.

Edit: i said 6.7liter but it was 6.8-liter John Deere PowerTech. Same engine, seems to be very strong.

Interesting. I've not owned one, but folklore here is that the old proper Valmet tractors were bombproof and AGCO trashed the brand when they got hold of it.

"AGCO trashed the brand when they got hold of it." Yep that is a shame, also prices went through the roof. They still make good engines, but all the other cast parts have always been really bad and to be honest, i don't know if the brand new ones are starting to be any better.

I thought valtra was very popular in Finland or is that the propaganda

Had both Jd way ahead on everything more to buy but resale is a lot more. Wouldn’t consider a valtra again, even bought a NH before them once

It might be true, many small ”ranch” buy those small ”a72” Valtras for blowing snow. Army and ”government” also buy those. So it may raise the numbers.

We have had a selection of 4 cylinder John Deere tractors over the years.

currently got a 6210; 6420s & 6430 premium. All been very good to us over the years.

The 6420s required a new head gasket at about 5k hours but other than that no major problems.

They punch quite hard for their weight, we ran a 3m power Harrow and combi seed and fert drill on the 64s up and down some reasonably steep ground. 4f plough or 14 Te grain trailers here too and both managed those jobs fine too. 6430 also ran our silage chopper until we got our 6155R.

both 64s are autoquad. The 20s has eco mode so does 27mph on the road at 1700 rpm so it’s a reasonably quick tractor even with the 40k box.

overall I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend one.

6cyl models above 65xx are also pretty well thought of we used to hire 6cyl ones for chopper duty now and again, prior to getting the 6420s. Had 6600s; 6800s & 6900s and never had an issue with them either working hard all day on the chopper. Would also recommend 6155R too but sounds like that’s newer than you are looking at.

Thanks for the info. 6420 and 6430 would be very ideal size to my jobs.
Seems if there is 3 stair cab steps, then they have cab suspension too? Little higher also.
I have to go test those. Do you guys delete egr from those 30 serie? It has to do with program?
I can't find much difference between those models. New dashboard in the 30 series.

Yeah our 6430 has cab suspension and the 3 steps, to be honest they are a pain as they get easily bent ploughing. 6420s has no suspension and only 2 steps. My dad likes the cab suspension where as I don’t see a massive difference but he drives the 30 more than me.

not much difference between the 20s and the 30 to be honest, 30 has the command screen but that’s about it.

both ours are untouched control system wise but I do hear a lot of people do it and they run cooler.

I went to test a few machines. One is really interesting, but the clutch was really sensitive, it just jump when you realese the pedal. It had a Reverser drum overhaul done, but is there anything else wrong with it? And how much that repair will cost?

Was it doing that constantly or only when cold? They have a perma 2 clutch, none of ours have ever required anything clutch or shuttle wise.

however first thing in the morning releasing the clutch they can bite at a random pedal position but after that they are consistent and “normal” like you’d expect a tractor clutch to be like. Usually only the first release of the clutch too after that they are normal

If something doesn’t feel right then I’d suggest to keep looking

Constantly the another one did not do that.
i read that there is some calibration what they can do. I would like to ask if anyone has had this kind of calibration done and has the machine worked flawlessly since then?

I have to call john deere service advisor.

Found one! little rough from outside (we have salty roads), need paint and new tie rods, but it haves almost every accessories that have been listed. Even glass sun roof 🙂
let's see how it lasts, it has 8000 hour now.
