If you saw the money he is investing in infrastructure you will see how he is not making any money but in years to come it will pay dividends for him. I know of one farm he has bought and has drained the whole lot within 18 months put new roads in and updated the building and now that farm looks a treat
Thats Capital outlay, not profit. I have just done drainage it will be written off over 20 years not this years profit.

Yeah thats great but food is in oversupply and as a tax payer why should I care what his 30000 acre backyard looks like?

But surely the capital outlay has to come from profits in the first place
Mine does, Mr dysons is from his latest cordless as he does not make any profit farming at the moment to do this work and puts him in the hobby farmer class on a large scale... but its his money to do what he likes with.

Let's face it, land is a strong asset, is not going anywhere or getting bigger. In the UK land is cheap, and for the moment the super rich like buying land.
