Igloo Energy and Barratt Smith Brown

The above energy company went bust a couple of years ago, I owed them a sum of money to settle the account, I was contacted by Barratt Smith Brown who said they had bought the debt, I wasn't entirely convinced about them but agreed to pay it off in 12 monthly instalments.
The last payment was made just before Christmas but two days before they sent an email saying I could defer payment if I was struggling to pay, I paid it anyway, so ending the direct debits.
I got an email today from them saying they bought another debt from me to Igloo for around £370.00 and as I hadn't answered their correspondence on this matter they have instructed their legal team to apply for a county court judgement allowing them to basically send the bailiffs in.
I certainly didn't owe this money, I have a statement that says clearly what was owed and I had no correspondence from BSB since the agreement 12 months ago apart from the email asking if I wanted to defer payment.

My gut feeling is that they are trying it on and I should ignore them.

Does anyone have any other advice, and has anyone had any dealings with BSB?

Sounds like they are the sort of company that tries it on https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.thebsbco.com
By the look of that you are putting it mildly. All very similar to my case, looks like I'll be getting more threats if they stick to the same tactics.
I was a bit dubious about paying off a debt that did exist as I was wary as to whether they were genuine but I won't be paying a non existent debt.

Absolute scum by the look of it and been getting away with these practices for a while.

Send them copies of your statements and payments, and advise them you'll happily see them in court and would expect them to meet your costs when they loose.
That's probably the way to go, maybe mention the harassment has been reported.

When they first sent the bill for what was owed I was in the NFU and asked their legal team for advice but they were non committal so I paid the debt, probably just encouraged them to try again.

It's not just the "actual " figure you owe ,its their figures plus recovery fees etc etc etc possibly?😱
I paid the actual figure after agreeing a payment method with them, they are now saying they bought a debt in November, which tallies with other posts in the above link, I don't owe anything, there was a detailed bill from Igloo, once I had set up a DD to pay it off they allowed me to change companies, I paid some of it off but then they went bust I stopped payments, the remainder is the amount I paid BSB in monthly payments.

Write to them.

Send it recorded delivery - include your debt, repayment plan etc etc. Either state that you do not owe and will not pay, or ask for evidence that you owe.

They can't just take you to court if you are in comms with them.

Just had an email so far and I'm told they need to send a letter to be official, see if it comes tomorrow.

You have probably been scammed. Apparantly they had a security breach according to money supermarket and scammers now have access to their records. Presonally I would let them whistle and prove their case through the courts if they really have a case.

Very different to when an energy company I had been dealing with went bust, but they owed me money.
Years of paperwork and sod all at the end of it.

Who were the liquidators dealing with Igloo? Don't they have some responsibility to ensure the debts they have supposedly sold on are legit and accurate? Might be worth the op making some enquiries in that direction.
