ill cow

Had 4 cows over last few months get ill with similar symptoms. Very watery diarrhea, milk drop off
, weight loss, they are down about a week then seem to recover. Vet looked at one two weeks ago and could not find out what was wrong. His only thought was Johnes, but was we are 60 tb testing at present can not test for. However, a week later she is better, though has some weight to put back on. First cow to get it, we thought it was johnes and she went on lorry before had chance to recover. Second was just coming up to dry off so did not send, she recovered and is now dry and doing OK. Anyone else have similar experience?

Had a couple in the last mnth, tested for johnes and ketosis both negative, put it down to some form of infection, possibly silage born, treated with metacam and forcyl on vet advice, both now back on track, 2016 been a funny old year for managing cows !

Dunno we were advised to keep her full when she started eating and get rid when bit of condition on her
Same here....if she's a suspect swinger, but not currently twisted, we'll pump her up and try and keep her eating-any sign of worsening, either operate or get rid (depending on the cow).

Cows can be like humans in that they can get a dicky belly for few days then come right again. Often seem to get the odd one like that. I am always suspicious about mouldy silage going into the trough, i try and discard any i see.
