I'm looking for a new tractor

Maybe even a smaller Maxxum would suffice, as the Deere is so small? We've had our Maxxum 135 Cvx for over 4000 hours. Apart from some adblue issues has been great. Can't say anything regarding the 6 cylinder versions, but the 6.7 Fpt is a reliable workhorse.

Thank you

As to your suggestion the question here is the reliability because if the JD 6120m gives more faults than the Case I would rather go for the bigger Maxxum 150 since they are similarly priced.

Neighbour has a 6110m with the short bonnet (and wheelbase) been no trouble and i cant fault it,however he only does light work with it.For heavy work i would worry about the small cooling pack cos of very limited space,Maxxum 150 is much more of a tractor for the same money, our 115 which is the same physical size as a 150 has been good, too big for yard work tho.

Thanks for the information. I always wondered how JD managed to shorten the wheelbase without compromising on something.

As much as that ?!
Ah ok when I was a kid of 14/15 dad had progressed to an electric mill which left the old db 850 redundant from running a flat pulley mill so I used to drive that about a bit , I even had 2new 6 volt batteries for my 15th birthday 😀 I even got the fore loader working which had not been used for a while and had seized up 🤔 if I remember correctly I traded some scrap with a scrap man to heat up the trip pin to get it going to use the dung fork 😀

Thank you for your feedback. Can you please tell me what king of operations are you using the Maxxum 145 for and what is the transmission on it?
Just about anything and everything. CVX drive transmission (vario) Loader work, a lot of trailer work, mowing, turning, rowing up, mole ploughing, harrowing, rolling. Do a lot of front flail work with our 130 which is also a CVX.

Plenty people willing to bash john deeres that have never owned them.

We have run them since the 70s

currently have 3 with the 4.5 litre 4 cylinder engine and they are great tractors. Between the three of them they must have over 20k hours and only "major" thing we have had is a new Cylinder head gasket on one of them at about 4-5k hours.

Both the 6420s and 6430 premium pull the 3m one pass blowing grain and fert up and down hills without any issue and last year we had the chopper on the 6430 doing 16' of grass with no issues.

As said above almost everything is reliable and almost everything has breakdowns regardless of brand and age. It's about the dealer and manufacturer back up when it does hit the fan that matters.

MF65, with roll bar. You could go the full hog, and spec in power steering. Then again, it could be a staff member doing most of the driving, so you might consider it over kill. But, I personally would go the extra mile if I was you. Especially if the lad is getting on a bit…
