Important HSE Directive - Welding

As of yesterday the HSE released a change of informantion notice regarding the welding of all metals, it is now compulsory that respiratory protection is now worn when welding (including mild steel).

@Welding Supplies Direct thanks for that. Can you post a link to what kind of respirator / mask is required, where to buy etc.
Something suitable for a hours use now and again and at a price to reflect that requirement. Not something designed and priced for 24/7 use.
Certainly, something like the Parweld XR940A PAPR system would be appropriate for that use. £365 + VAT is the special we're doing on them currently, delivery, lenses and some filters included.

You can’t put a price on H&S, I read it somewhere else.....:rolleyes:

Does welding in an open fronted shed on a windy day count as ‘extraction’?:scratchhead: Maybe I should make up some more signs before tomorrow?

The hierarchy applied in doing a risk assessment first of all determines if you can remove the hazard, PPE is the last resort.
In this case of course you can remove the hazard, forget welding, just tie everything together with a bit of used baler cord, photograph it ( if it is a repair and not a new fabrication using nice shiny new metal) and put a post in the 'quick bodges and fixes' thread.
