Importing embryos or semen

Does anyone have any experience of this? Costs involved? Logistics? Are there any good companies I should approach? I am doing a bit of a herd tour abroad at the end of this year and wondering if/how it would work if I saw something I'd like to take back home? Any tips/advice or words of warning appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

I know people that have worked with Eggs Port, so I could try them. I was looking at Angus from New Zealand. I take it that that would add extra paperwork with it being outwith Europe, besides the obvious distance involved?

Try the Tilson's. They have family connections out there. Netherton have imported from NZ. Nigel Hammill has imported plenty of times from NZ to and will have good connections.
Eggs-Port would be a good link your end. I've used Stella Scholes at Bovine Genetics for my embryo work and exporting to Australia. Be worth contacting as they might have semen/embryos coming in for other people which will help with the costs.

Neil Sanderson of Fossil Creek Angus is a vet and exports embryos directly from his farm. Other higher profile large breeders such as Te Mania and Mount Linton may use licensed AB centres. I suggest (if you have not already done so) contact the breeders you wish to visit and check out how they go about embryo collection for export as costs will vary depending if cows are transported and managed at an AB centre for as long as the protocol with the EU demands.
Export freighting agencies (work with airlines) are very competitive. The largest cost differences will be in the purchase cost of embryos and whether they are collected on-farm or at AB centres. The cost of administering the protocol with the EU is all done by one body in NZ, MPI (Min Primary Industries) so that cost is relatively uniform except for travel.

Great information thanks! I've visited Mount Lintons website and it's very impressive! I like what they are doing there. Could you tell me a rough ball park figure to ship embryos across? Thanks!

I strongly suggest you contact Ceri Lewis at Mount Linton to see if they will supply embryos, visit; www.mountlinton.co.nz and make contact asking Xcell the exporting costs, visit www.xcell.co.nz
Or, contact Neil Sanderson to get the full costs (also one of NZ's top sources of Angus genetics), visit; www.fossilcreek.co.nz

we have quite a few heifers on the ground from fossil creek now and we are flushing them 2017 for export with NZ semen so they will still be NZ lines , we also have embryos for sale from fossil creek as well (cleared for export).
