Probably discussed previously but can’t find any info.
What hurdles is their to cross bringing breeding ewes or lambs from Scotland to Northern Ireland

Ewes not to bad, need tested for MV, most big marts can arrange this if you buy from a mart, takes a few days so need a bit of keep for them. Need an import licence and vetted before they leave. Department need notified on this side. Once here they have to be isolated for 6 months and then bled again. Ewe lambs cant come in until a year old unless from an MV free flock or for direct slaughter. I haven't brought any in for a few years but id say not much will have changed.

Does being in a field next to ewes count as isolating? I’ve 40 coming from Scotland next week and I was planning to put them in a field next to my neighbours flock

Well when I started bringing them in they wanted a map showing where I was putting them and had to be away from other sheep,I just used the same ground every year. might have changed since then though.

Thanks. So they have to be isolated from my own sheep for 6 months after they arrive. How do I get them in lamb??

Well I never had the problem as I left them in Scotland until the new year but I suppose if you put your own rams out they would just have to be isolated as well

Musn't be too bad as there are plenty of Mayo men getting lanark ewes in some way. I have to say in all they years I brought them in the department came out and looked at them the day they arrived and I never saw them again until they wanted to test them.
