The one we have here is quite different, it used to just be called "lotus major" but I think they reclassified it to L. corniculatus?Looks a lot like it but I'm only 80% sure, @CornishTone can probably give a definite answer.
Mine have a slight bit of red at the beginning of the flower so probably where the name egg & bacon comes from.
It's got a lot of little florets and they really do have a reddish tinge, Dad called it "ham and egg".
