Improving poor grassland

Well my grass just went from looking a bit "tired", sort of pale and thin, very little life in it, clover was really small leafed, would start growing late and stop early, just generally looked a bit poor and a bit hungry!
Had the ph and N,P,K tested, N,P,K were fine put chap reccomended 2 tonne/acre of lime.
In quite a short time it made the difference,as said above it looked like it had had fertilizer on it, thick, lush and green, noticed a lot more plant species in the sword and clover really going for it, considering how dry it's been the grass has grazed for longer, there's less ewes on the ground for sure but I deffinetly think the grass has coped a lot better than it would have!

Incidentally, does clover do better as a result of liming Or is that a coincidence?
As I said the clover seems to have much bigger leaves and Ive never seen it flowering like it has this year,
