In calf cow and standing heat

Confirmed in calf last December, no sign that she's thrown it. Last night a strong standing heat, no bulling mucus. Ai out today to inseminate another cow, I asked him to give her the once over, not bulling no bulling mucus. What's the cause, is it hormonal?

We often get a heat or two before calving.

There's a figure floating about in the literature that 9% of pregnant animals show signs of heat.

The ovaries continue to cycle throughout pregnancy.

I'm seen odd cows that come every 21 days.

(do be aware of the risk she slipped the calf)

I was told on ai course while back that up to 20% can show signs of bulling around 5 to 6 months in calf, see it most autumn's but the bull never bothered with them.

Could have been carrying twins and re absorbed one, we had one two years ago that was in calf and then started bulling every three weeks from around 100 days. She had a hiefer which I kept and then try to serve beginning of jan this year and it's a bloody free Martin.:banghead:

We had a particular female line who were prone to this. One every 23 days from about 4 months through to calving every time. Fattest cow on the farm which may or may not be relevant.

Had two in last year. One was 5 months in bulling really really strong so I ai'd her carefully. Not going to far in..she then slipped about a week later.
Had a cow last week pd incalf at 48 days bulling strong. Just put that down to a % slipping after vet pd.

On another point had one pd at 75 days in positive. Old cow at 13. Had vet check her a week after due date cause she wasn't bagging and she was empty and fat. Come back at £950 mind.

All in all its livestock and nothing is written in stone.
