Ineos Grenadier production stopped due to trim part shortage.

May not resume until next year.

PULL THE OTHER ONE! They would not shut production down for the lack of a trim part, not for a day much less for possibly three or four months. I suspect that they just haven’t got orders for them and/or have too much inventory. Do you think production will ever resume? I mean, a trim part and they are aiming to resume production some time in 2025 :scratchhead: Sounds decidedly fishy. Nobody ever has that kind of delay and alternative suppliers or workarounds can always be found.

They cannot possibly sustain a dealer network, certainly not dedicated dealer premises such as the only one in Wales, Days, with no product to deliver for possibly half a year, if ever.

I've been of the opinion from the beginning that if land rover didn't see the value in modifying the defender as was to keep it in their line up how was it gonna fare well for anyone else. Not least at a much higher price and without the "brand" name.

I strongly suspect that the ‘trim part’ concerned is actually more than a single trim part. Recaro, who supply Grenadier’s seats, filed for bankruptcy a couple of months ago. Without a supply of seats, they obviously can’t keep production going. This is more serious than 'a trim part’ and it is substantially more difficult to find a replacement supplier in the short term.
Far easier for Ineos to buy Recaro I’d have thought. Probably cheapest option too, rather than lose three to four months of vehicle production [if they have the customers for them].

You may have hit the nail on the head here ............
Seats are technically trim .....who's gonna buy a vehicle with no seats ........

The Recaro issue has hit Aston Martins too, but I believe the Financial markets think the Grenadier project is on its last legs. Aston would be too but thankfully there will always be some fool out there looking for the fame of supporting them

It would be a great pity if the Grenadier project failed but, forget the seat issue, they have made so many fundamental design and marketing mistakes that it’s almost unbelievable. I mean, who would actually try selling an utility four door pickup suitable for farmers, utility companies and civil engineering that has a very sub 1000kg payload and therefore does not qualify as a commercial vehicle for taxation purposes? Grenadier have, and as I said the only dealer in South Wales, which should be a natural market for Quartermaster, has not had one single customer for it despite having a demonstrator for four months.
The other indicator of demand is that they only sold 200 units in total up to the end of September in the UK, which is a drop from 800 they sold in the same period in 2023. To be clear, that is the total of all Ineos Grenadier registrations in the UK, as I understand it, including press and demo models.
As I predicted once the initial demand, with a lot of it from flippers and chancers, had been satisfied, where in most countries was there a real demand for a utility vehicle such as this?
There are about 100 used and demo models advertised in Auto Trader for the last year or longer, now reduced to the mid 70’s I believe.

The boss aimed Grenadier at farmers and utility companies yet not one model until the Quartermaster was even suitable for that market. They sent large numbers of five door panel side versions with reduced rear seat legroom over which do not qualify for VAT, making them no cheaper than fully glazed full legroom versions. They actually claimed that these were ‘fully commercially certified’ which was either a lie or showed their complete ignorance of the market and tax regulations at least in the UK. To be clear they do qualify as commercial vehicles as far as the DVLS and speed limits are concerned but not for HMRC VAT and tax offset against business income.

They now apparently have built a whole big batch of Quartermaster pickups for the UK market that are unsaleable. Who are the ‘geniuses’ that made these disastrous decisions? Even my humble self saw through these issues from near the get-go and cancelled my five seat panel version order a year before they actually started deliveries because it was quite obvious that they would never qualify for VAT and tax purposes.

Only now are they sending some of their un-qualifying panel vans to be converted by MS RT in South Wales to seal the second row doors, remove the wind down windows and completely block those door windows plus remove the chassis brackets that might be used for something or other so that at last they at least have a qualifying panel van. To be clear, the original panel van build did NOT qualify any more than the passenger ones do. Have a look at their web site and model range and you will find that they are making a rather triumphant song and dance about this new conversion. This brings into stark prominence the fact that they didn’t explain the tax situation properly to any buyers before the launch of this recent new variant. So now they have a qualifying van variant that most dealers have not taken into stock or sold one yet.

Aston Martin have a lovely SUV, built in South Wales, that deserves to sell in volume. However the £170,000+ price bracket is not a volume selling sector of the market. While I don’t travel much these days, I have only seen one DBX on the roads so far. I have seen more Cullinans around.
In my opinion [I’m certainly not in that market but do like cars generally] they made a mistake in the dashboard design at launch where the auto transmission controls were group line of massive buttons dominating the top centre of the dash. It certainly put me off and looked really ‘cheap’. They have recently done away with the buttons and put a selector on the transmission tunnel console, where they/it should always have been

I think they made a gross mistake in the market although I know it exists for these vehicles
they already made an estate should have left it at that
not mine sadly
