This insect fluttered down beside me the other day.

It's about 2 inches long

I'm curious to know what it is

Wood wasp I think
Not entirely sure but they come to light at night always.

Yep, wood wasp or I’ve always know them as Larch wasps. They are often about in the summer when I’m milling larch.
