I have been asked to put electric cable in at local cricket club. should I feed the cable down the back of the subsoiler leg or pull the cable in? I tend to think it would be better to feed it down behind the leg but I have never tried either before so was looking for advice. TIA

Hire a tractor mounted trencher with a 4 inch chain on.

Then you can drop cable in, partially back fill then tape and complete the job.

You will struggle to go down deep enough - ought to be down 1 m really

If your thinking of putting cable in mature grass and don't want to destroy the turf why not use either one of these.
The chain trencher can dig from 125mm-200mm wide and up to a meter deep and the 760 supertrencher can dig from 50mm up to 155mm wide and 760mm deep.
They are both available to hire.

We have a modified single leg subsoiler which can take 50mm pipe down to @ 750mm.
We run some bright yellow pipe in then pull the cables through them.
Bit of a compromise on 1m deep with tape , but works well with us.
Just make sure there is adequate earth protection in case of accidents with diggers etc at a later date

Yellow pipe is for gas, is it allowed to be used for another purpose? (anyone coming across it will be ringing gas board) electric is black or red iirc, remember on a job i did they painted brown soil pipe black to used as electric ducting!

Just a note that one farmer once installed power cables in a blue alkethene. I seperate contractor located this pipe and cut through it to install a t for a water tank.... needles to say the end result was not pretty.

As a company we would be liable if we installed the wrong colour duct and I believe a farmer is liable if he has done the same thing!

I know someone who fixed a curved pipe behind the leg and fed the cable down that as they went , I think they removed the mole . That way you have no risk of stretching the cable. Although I think you can safely drag it behind the mole a fair way.

Sure it's doable but asking to be sued.

It needs backfilling in something different to natural soil around it and taping.

Also needs to go do deeper than a mole plough

Anything less is frankly irresponsible
