Ok thanks for your help I will check that in the morning however in disengagement it seems fine on forward gear but not to say it should be the same in reverse ? Cheers Brian

Long shot, but we had a 475 that got a slight tweak about gear/pto linkages on lhs. Wouldn't take reverse when pto engaged. Not much clearance in that area.
Thanks for your help I will check that as well this morning all suggestions are grateful cheers.....Brian

Does it go into neutral? Ours used to get stuck quite often, as does the 574 we still have and the 684. Lever feels like it’s in neutral but when you let your foot off the clutch it isn’t. Solution is to get underneath and whack the lever a few times, helps if you have someone on the seat to move the lever at the same time.

I have tried your suggestion guys but can’t come up with the solution, what I realise is it will only go into forward drive in high range but if I push the lever 1 over to the left then it is solid and won’t go into low range forward or backwards ? Thanks for your help cheers....Brian

That sounds like the exact same problems we have. Keep trying to hit it out from underneath. Don’t be gentle with it.

Once you’ve got it working again try to remember to move the lever all the way up before moving it across. This normally happens when the lever gets moved sideways before it’s completely out.

Does the tractor drive forward in low range or reverse when the lever is in neutral ?
I'm suspecting not as if this were the case when you selected high range it would stall as two ranges would selected at once.

I'm beginning to think the low/reverse selector may have sized with standing.

If you get under the tractor at the LHS, look above the hydraulic oil filter area. You should be able to see the high range selector & the low reverse selector, there'll be rods going back off them to the rest of the external gear linkage.

The low/reverse selector is rear one, we know the high range works so leave that alone.
Take the clevis pin out the low reverse selector & see if it will knock back & forward ok, forward is low, back is reverse.

If this works your problems are external, if it tight try lubrication where the selector goes into the transmission housing.

Report what you find.

Hi thanks you’ve been a great help I have just been underneath and I can see one of the rods is not connected I can see the hole in the top where a pin would of gone through the rod swings freely but can I he’ll see where it would of gone to it’s very dark underneath I tried to take a picture on my phone but it’s no good .My worry is that if the pin was fixed has something inside seized to make it snap or has a split pin came off and it has just dropped out Is there an easy way to get at it I have fumbled about in the crap but can’t font where it went ...thanks you’ve been a great help cheers ...Brian

Your going to have to clean out the crap in daylight, or get a lamp/decent torch under there.
The clevis pin will be held in with a split pin, unless at some point someone has stuck a bolt in to keep them going & it's dropped out !
Sounds like it should be an easy enough fix once you can see what you are doing.

If in doubt take a photos & post them ...

Morning Gapples you’ve been a great help I tackled it this morning and took what covers off I could from inside the cab ,although it’s out of reach I could see it w is a broken clevis pin but it hasn’t fell out of the rod it’s still in I suppose it will be on splines?and I would suppose has to come off to hammer it out so I think it could be done once I go to town and buy some tools It’s the first time in 14year I didn’t bring my toolbox never mind anyway I can’t thank you and the others enough this forum is a god send thanks again ......Brian

Your very welcome Brian, I have to say though a clevis pin will not be on splines.
See how you get on with tools to hand & re post with pics if required ...

Well I have it all stripped out now I took off what panels and the shift housing and took the whole assembly out so I could get at it externally I was getting nowhere trining to get a hammer at the flanges on the clevis pins so I’m sort of sorted I’m missing one the one that broke but I will stick a bolt in when I put it back together tomorrow and because it won’t be seized next time I’m here I will have sorced a one and replace it . Here’s a couple of pics I have took thanks again .....Brian
