Name and password must be correct because incoming mail is working.Sounds like you need to re-enter your user name and password into your email account, you're user name is usually your email address plus what ever password you used.

Can you get thunderbird for iPhone? I've had this problem on computers in the past. Mail on a mac always throws up problem with password if it can't connect with the server, no matter what the problem is. It has always self resolved after a short while.This isn't always the case.
I use the Thunderbird email client. The user name and password has to be set for each inbound and outbound mail account. If I have to update email passwords, it takes ages to reset everything, twice, for each account in Thunderbird.

My iPhone won't let me send an email anymore, just comes up that "the user name or password is incorrect"
Have tried restarting the password but still won't work, although it will receive incoming emails ok?

I find the emails can go a bit wonky after the OS has been updated. Mine doesn't update without me letting it. You can of course check for updates by clicking settings>general>software update.Hi,
I have deleted the email account and reset it, the email address and password is definitely correct
I'm not sure on how long ago I think it's been updated automatically when needed?
Has you email provider updated their security settings? Who do you use?
